Growing up in the early 2000's black animated series were damn near non-existent, until Disney invested in The Proud Family. The Proud Family, which originally aired between 2001 and 2005, is an animated series dedicated to black pride, transgenerational love, friendship, music, and humanity. I'm excited to share that The Proud Family is coming back, right when the world needs it the most.
Penny and the twins are a bit older, Oscar is still yelling, Uncle Bobby is still mackin', and Suga Mama still ain't takin no s***!
The new Louder & Prouder series will be: a continuation of the original series, be hosted exclusively on Disney+, and will include the original cast of voice actors: Kyla Pratt (Penny Proud), Tommy Davidson (Oscar Proud), Paula Jai Parker (Trudy Proud), Jo Marie Payton (Suga Mama) and Cedric the Entertainer (Uncle Bobby), as well as the original creator/executive producer Bruce W. Smith and executive producer Ralph Farquhar.
KEKE PALMER JOINS THE PROUD FAMILY CAST
On Thursday, August 6th, 2020 Keke Palmer announced via Instagram that she'll be lending her voice to a new character on the Disney+ series The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder. Keke will play the voice of Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, a 14-year-old activist and friend to the lead character Penny Proud (Kyla Pratt).
“There’s a new girl coming to town! Prepare to fall in love with 14-year-old activist Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins, voiced by ME!!! 🙏🏾😩😍❤️ #TheProudFamily: Louder and Prouder, coming soon to @disneyplus.” Keke Palmer
DID SOMEBODY SAY SOMETHIN' ABOUT A REUNION?
Keke's announcement of her new role on Disney+ The Proud Family: Louder & Prouder coincided with the fourth day of the Arts Culture and Entertainment Festival powered by the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People).
As part of the festivals programming the NAACP blessed us with a virtual reunion of the original Proud Family Cast. The voices behind Penny, Oscar, Suga Mama, and Uncle Bobby (Cedric The Entertainer) all reconnected for a conversation with the show's Creator and Executive Producers Bruce W. Smith & Ralph Farquhar. To top it all off the conversation was hosted by Keke Palmer!
Immediately once you press play on The Proud Family virtual reunion it feels like you're talking to ya aunties, cousins, and of course ya' Sugamama. The moderator, Keke Palmer, completely geeks out over the reassembling of the OG cast, which is exactly what I was doing as I was watching.
The 30-minute conversation is hilarious and incredibly insightful on Proud Family history that I never knew, like, Alicia Keys singing the backup vocals on the theme song!
If you're a Proud Family fan the virtual conversation will absolutely ignite joy and warmth into your spirit and soul as well as give you some insight on the new series coming to Disney+. I highly recommend watching and know you won't regret it.
If you take my advice and find yourself watching the conversation do me a favor and comment that yesfredia.com sent you!
